Seppo

Maintenance foreman, Machinery Oy, Finland

“I started working at Machinery in 2006. In my previous work I had been a tool manufacturer, so I was used to using the machines that Machinery sells and maintains. After I moved to Machinery I started fixing, installing and modernizing the machines used by Machinery’s principal agencies. I have studied production engineering mechanics and this education created a basis for my work, but my professionalism largely comes from learning from my work. I have a strong desire to learn and I like to build different machines.

At the beginning, the work involved a lot of travel, I would pick up used machines from customer for repairs and deliver new machines with a truck. After a few years I expanded my know-how in CNC to new milling, turning, grinding and sheet-metal working machines and started independently performing installation of these in the customer interface. After the truck was sold, I became a full-time installer. In 2015, I was offered the opportunity to start heading a team of 17 people as a foreman. Even though the role change was huge, I wanted to try out my wings in this new task. The new role has been fruitful, and it has been nice to be part of promoting our culture that is based on tight cooperation and taking individuals into consideration.

Our unique team spirit in Machinery that has been generated as a result of a long history is especially nice. This is not a workplace where you spend time from eight to four but more of a second family where we cook together and celebrate various events. Due to my hobby, I often act as a DJ and announcer at company parties, which is fun. All in all, we have a strong sense of community and encouraging atmosphere. Even though our company has gone through changes over the years, the familiarity and friendliness that characterize our work community have never disappeared.
